A customer was leaving with one of his wife’s homemade quilts and I introduced her to Mr. C. With tears in her eyes, she said, “I will enjoy this quilt for many years. Thank you.” Mr. C’s grins were getting bigger by the minute.
There was one piece of furniture left and Mr. C looked like he was in deep thought. I asked him about the chair. He said he didn’t like it much because it wasn’t soft enough. He had a much better one at his new place. A new chair and a new beginning. He watched eagerly while the family loaded up the old one and took it away.
He gave me a hug and told me I had done a good job. His encouragement was simple and yet profound. I learned a lot today. Change is good. Stuff is temporary. Memories last forever.
I love my job at Organized Haven and the opportunity to know the Mr. C’s of the world. I am changed by the kindness and the example I saw today.
