5 Reasons to Hire a Professional Organizer:

Knowing is half the battle, right? We all know that the first step to fixing a problem is accepting the fact that there is a problem. Oftentimes, that is the hardest step to take. Sometimes the problem is that we are overweight, in which case we might hire a trainer/nutritionist or invest in a weight loss supplement/program. Sometimes the problem is that we have a drug or alcohol addiction, in which case we might hire a therapist or get into a rehab program. Well, what if the problem is that we are disorganized? The good news is that, just like with any other problem in our lives, there is a specialist that can help with that problem… a Professional Organizer!

Being disorganized can mean something completely different from person to person. For some, it can be the case of an accumulation of clutter that results from grief, illness, the birth of a child or any other life changes and events. For others, it can be more of a life-long battle with chronic disorganization that affects almost every aspect of their lives.

So, how do you know if you need to get help? Here are just a few of the main reasons why you might be so impacted by your disorganization that you should definitely get help from a professional:
You just can’t take it anymore!
You are overwhelmed, stressed and exhausted by your lack of organization. You have gotten to the point where you can no longer function in your space, but you just don’t know where to start or what to do and you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.

You are spending way too much money on late fees!
You are just tired of opening the mail to find that you forgot to pay another bill on time and there’s another $30 you have flushed down the toilet! There’s got to be a way that you can organize your finances and avoid these useless fees, but you have no idea how to create a system that works.

You spend a large amount of time searching for things that you know you have, but you don’t know where you put them!
In addition to wasting money on late fees, you also waste time looking for things, because they don’t have a designated spot for them to go where you can find them when you need them.

You are constantly missing appointments and other deadlines!
You would love to be the person who is on time to everything and who completes assignments well before they are due… but you are not! You are tired of missing appointments and ready to make a change, but you've said that plenty of times before and the change never came!

You don’t have the physical strength to declutter on your own!
You have a back problem or other medical condition that limits your ability to bend up and down or lift heavy objects. You know that you need assistance if you are to get it done at all!

That is just a short list of reasons to hire a professional organizer. People and their organizational challenges are unique as well as the systems that will work for them. That is why hiring a professional is a good idea. You could just simply have a friend or family member help you, but will they truly help you get and stay organized with zero judgment?

Never be embarrassed about needing help with organization. Just as there are Professional Cleaners, there are Professional Organizers. If you feel that you cannot handle it alone, hire one to not only get you organized, but keep you organized! You will be glad you did!

I love that you stress that no one should be embarrassed for needing help, whether it's with organizing or anything else. Somebody could even be very organized by nature, but too busy with other commitments to handle a project like converting the home office to a nursery (for example).

You make a very good point, Janet! Sometimes, a person just doesn't have the time. Thank you for your comment!

This is a great list of reasons, Nicole. Sometimes it is the "pain" that makes us finally reach out for help, right? Welcome to the Blog Carnival!

Great list, Nicole! My favorite is #5. Physical assistance can be essential, especially if someone lives in a multi-story house.

Thank you, Rashelle! I have multiple clients that hire me for the physical assistance alone.

Great List Nicole! All very true. With regards to paying bills, i encourage clients to use the direct debit facilities to help alleviate the late payment fees.

Thank you, Shelina! Yes, automatic withdrawals for bill payments can be helpful to avoid fees- so long as there are sufficient funds in the account when the payments are pulled! Otherwise, even more fees are incurred... it's not for everyone.

Great post Nicole, I seem to get the clients who can't take it anymore. Even then they feel embarrassed about having to ask for help. This is why this is such a great topic for the carnival this month. Welcome.

What a great post, Nicole! So many of the items on your list apply to me. I just added up how much I paid in library fees in the past 12 months. To my shock- it was $44!! I can't afford that!!
I have FINALLY finished my desk clean up. Where can I post the before and afters??
Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you, Melinda! It is so easy to waste money on fees when you don't have a good organizational system in place that works for you. Sometimes, we just have to try new ways of doing things to find what's best. I use a paper calendar to document bill payments due and other deadlines. That helps me avoid those pesky fees! Other people like electronic forms of reminders, like email alerts or phone alarms.

Congratulations on your desk cleanup! There isn't a way for me to allow picture comments on here, so the only thing I can think of is to share this blog post to Facebook as your inspiration and attach your before and after pics as your results.

As always, Melinda, thank you for your comments! :)

Welcome to the Blog Carnival! Great list! Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of wisdom. And we might be the one helping next time. :)

Agreed, Olive! A person that understands when they need help and isn't ashamed or afraid of asking for it is definitely smart in my book. Thanks for reading and for the warm welcome! :)

I appreciate that this post shared that one of the benefits of hiring a professional organizer is that they will help us declutter. I do find that a benefit as it will save us a huge amount of time locating our items. I will consider the option since my wife and I are looking to declutter.

What Our Clients are Saying:

"My mother had lived in her home for over 65 years when she passed, so the house was filled to the brim. Nicole and her team were outstanding. They came to the house, presented a plan to remove all of the items through an online auction. They inventoried all items, separated the items into individual lots and managed the auction, down to the last item being paid for, picked up and removed from the house! The payment for their services and transfer of the proceeds was seamless. I was left with an empty house that I could then get ready for sale. Perfect! Couldn't have asked for a better solution to an overwhelming situation!"
