5 Simple Ways to Refresh Your Old Office

Offices aren't necessarily known to be the epicenters of creativity, and the image of beige cubicles feels claustrophobic at best. Your workspace options may be pretty limited depending on where you work; however, here are five simple ways you can liven up your workspace.

1. Don't Mess
Take inventory of what you have an be utilitarian: keep only what you need. That includes pictures, ornaments, or memorabilia that bring you joy. Everything else should go! Sell valuable items, donate anything that's been gently used, and recycle what you can.

Try to limit what you put in the landfill but don't be afraid to get rid of things that you never use. Afterward, stay on top of it! If you struggle to keep things tidy, try giving yourself a single designated clutter area, like a drawer or a basket to keep things small.

If you need help assessing what can stay and what can go, let us help you organize your office.
2. Old Pad, New Fad
While fashion does come back around, there's no reason for your office to feel like a time capsule. Changing the layout of your furniture is an easy way to get into a different head space, and it doesn't cost anything!

Play with the angles of the lighting in your office and accentuate any natural light by changing blinds or curtains. Changing up your decor can also make a huge difference. Display photos in creative ways rather than hanging them on the wall or setting them on a desk - collages make this super easy, and you can add your own creative flair. Add some new art or replace the art you have. Thrift stores are excellent places to find hidden gems and save cash.

3. Colorful Language
Colors in your office speak volumes. Sure, everyone has their own aesthetic, and there are certainly parameters in every workplace. Sometimes a new coat of paint is all you need, getting rid of all those nicks and smudges to which your eyes have become immune.

Add a splash of color. Blues and greens tend to be the colors of productivity, but don't be afraid to try something new. Be bold! Paint the whole room or paint an accent wall. Add a touch of abstract art, commission a mural, or put up some chalkboard paint for a giant, working easel. You can even paint exposed ducts and pipes with bright shades, making an industrial office look less gloomy.

4. Growing Up
More and more, people are rejecting the notion of a regular nine to five - especially young people. Part of the problem is that a lot of offices atmospheres feel like lifeless voids, which does not improve anyone's desire to get stuff done. Adding plants to your workspace environment can really liven it up without breaking the bank. There are plenty of viable vegetative options depending on your light situation (or your ability to keep plants alive).

Succulents don't require much water or attention, and are generally pretty indestructible. If you have some natural light or a place to put a UV lamp, cacti are similarly versatile. If you have more room, light, or freedom to alter your workspace, go for hanging or potted plants, including trees.

5. Do the Work
You can still do the work and stay active on the job! Switch out your conventional furniture for options that encourage you to get moving. Standing desks are becoming increasingly popular, and the heights can be adjusted for various chairs and body positions.

For those with larger office spaces, consider creating a second workstation to diversify your desk space, or open up the floor so that you have a place to walk around. You can even trade in your chair for an exercise ball; you can even get stands with removable backrests if that is more your speed.
Happy Organizing!

What Our Clients are Saying:

"My mother had lived in her home for over 65 years when she passed, so the house was filled to the brim. Nicole and her team were outstanding. They came to the house, presented a plan to remove all of the items through an online auction. They inventoried all items, separated the items into individual lots and managed the auction, down to the last item being paid for, picked up and removed from the house! The payment for their services and transfer of the proceeds was seamless. I was left with an empty house that I could then get ready for sale. Perfect! Couldn't have asked for a better solution to an overwhelming situation!"
