Best Method for an Organized Pending File:

7/31/2015

My Sunday Basket
Hello friends! How are you? Are you tired of looking at your pending file of incoming mail, bills, to-do's and other items that your file tray is a catch-all for? My guess is that it looks nothing like this here pictured to the left! This is my pending file- placed in an attractive basket and categorized into eight sections using durable write-on plastic dividers with pockets.

This is not the method I've always used to keep my pending documents and action items. In fact, my pending file probably looked something like yours does right now! When it comes to paper organization, it can be difficult to find a method that is easy to maintain. I knew right away as I started this project that it was going to work AND that I could use this method to help the clients that I organize for better manage their papers. Read on to learn how to get your pending file organized once and for all...
So, here is what my pending file looked like BEFORE -> -> ->
Look familiar? What I hated about this standard pending file tray was that it was basic, unattractive, typical, and it ended up being a catch-all for anything and everything paper-wise. I wanted something that was attractive, more functional, easy to carry to the living room to work on, and I needed a system that would allow me to manage all the paperwork on a consistent basis, thus avoiding the inevitable pile that my current system created.

Sorry that it turned out so blurry!
As an organizer, I have become acquainted with other professionals in my industry that have created systems that worked for them and their clients. One of my new friends in the business, Lisa Woodruff- Professional Organizer and owner of Organize365 in Cincinnati, Ohio, created the Sunday Basket as a weekly paper organization and planning tool.

Once I knew this was the system for me and that it was one that would work well in many households, I became an affiliate for her e-Book.

You can link to it here and get 10% off by using the coupon code NICOLE to start your very own Sunday Basket -> -> ->

Be sure to check out all of her Etsy products, as they are all great, and the coupon code NICOLE will apply.

And, a link to the Avery Durable Write-On Dividers with Pockets:
You can write directly on the tabs with permanent marker (much easier than by using a ballpoint pen). If you make a mistake or need to change the purpose of the tab, you can remove the ink with a little rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball.

Disclosure: Links I provide in my blog posts and other places on Organized by Nicole's site are to products and resources that I believe in, and/or use and love. In an effort to provide an additional income source for my family, I have become an affiliate for some of these products and companies, as they pay me a percentage of the sale when you purchase from my site, without any additional cost to you. Your purchase here supports my family... thank you!!

I'm sure I can find a basket in purple, right?
So much more attractive than the other!
I no longer have a desk. Where should I keep all my writing, and bill paying stuff?
Thanks!

Hey Melinda!

Yes, if anyone can find a purple basket, it is you! Just make sure it is 12" wide to fit your plastic dividers.

You should set up a designated space in your home for a table or small desk with a file box/cabinet to store your paper, files, paper clips, pens & pencils, etc. Some people like their "office" to be in the middle of family activity in the kitchen or living room. Others like a quiet space in their bedroom. Pick a spot that works for you.

Let me know if you'd like any help with this project! :)

I have something similar, but I use regular file folders instead. The write-on dividers with pockets are much prettier, and I like the way the tabs offset instead of all being all in one line.

Those dividers are a hot seller on my Amazon Affiliate site, Janet! The picture I took was after I had used a ballpoint pen - it looks much prettier with the fine point marker I used since.

Thanks, Sarah! What I also love about it is that it actually works! Filing trays never worked for me- they were always pile and dust creators!

What Our Clients are Saying:

"My mother had lived in her home for over 65 years when she passed, so the house was filled to the brim. Nicole and her team were outstanding. They came to the house, presented a plan to remove all of the items through an online auction. They inventoried all items, separated the items into individual lots and managed the auction, down to the last item being paid for, picked up and removed from the house! The payment for their services and transfer of the proceeds was seamless. I was left with an empty house that I could then get ready for sale. Perfect! Couldn't have asked for a better solution to an overwhelming situation!"
